Payment processing in New Jersey.
VitaPay serves merchants in New Jersey, as it does in every US state. Below are the New Jersey rules and official offices worth knowing before you take your first card payment there: the surcharging rule, the sales-tax agency and where the business is registered.
Adding a credit card surcharge in New Jersey.
Surcharges allowed with state conditionsA credit card surcharge cannot exceed the seller's actual cost to process the card payment. The amount (a percentage is fine) must appear on signs at the point of entry and point of sale, on menus for restaurants, on the checkout page online, or verbally for phone orders. A sign saying only that a surcharge applies is not enough. The cap covers credit cards only, not debit or gift cards.

General information, not legal advice. Surcharging laws change, and card network rules apply in addition to New Jersey law. Confirm the current rule with the state or your own adviser before adding a surcharge; the sources below show when this was last read.
